Dear Incoming AP Language and Composition Students,
Below is a random, yet curiously holistic list of suggested but not mandatory summer assignments to help prepare you for Jr. AP Language and Composition. If you do these things, I believe you will be well-prepared to begin our studies in the course:
A. Read some good books; they nurture the soul. Curb your reading of Gossip Girl, Twilight, and bad science fiction. 2. Fly a kite; it teaches you to soar and go where the wind takes you, but also how to be grounded. D. Read Thomas Jefferson and John Adams; find out what it means to be an American. 14. Spend time enjoying your families; your parents do love you even though they may ride you hard. f. Listen to some country music; the tunes are catchy and they tell good stories. I prefer The Dixie Chicks. J. Go to the beach; there’s something about being at the end of a continent and realizing it’s not the end of the world. 27. Listen to Miles Davis Kind of Blue all the way through without interruption; it’s the greatest jazz album ever and nothing more needs to be said. Z. Eat from a taco truck; there’s no better Mexican food. 3. Hike the Pleasanton Ridge more than once; it puts Pleasanton in perspective. 100. Be ready to work when you come back to school; the class will be harder than the previous items on this list might indicate.
when a teacher is no longer your teacher, you realize just how much you will miss being in his class.
college is on my list of things i’d like to pretend is still in the faraway future. i’m definitely excited about the idea of being IN college, i just don’t particularly think i’ll enjoy the process of APPLYING for college. especially after i saw the list my mother dearest prepared for me. i read it. it scared me. i hid it inside a book i never read. then i got bored and opened the book i never read. it scared me again.
